Have you ever bought a pair of jeans that looked great in a photo but once you got them home and tried them on, didn’t fit quite right?  Car buying can be a lot like that!  This is why the test drive is one of the most important aspects of your car purchasing process and almost no one does it right!

That’s why our Victorville Hyundai sales team came up with their best tips on what to focus on and how to come prepared.

Pre-Test Drive

Do your research.  We understand that you can learn a lot about your potential new vehicle before you even step foot on our lot.  In fact, we encourage it!  You can see how our Hyundai vehicles stack up against each other from visiting this link.  Pick your top vehicles and prepare some questions to bring with you to the dealership.  Remember, we are in this to help you find your PERFECT vehicle.

Make an Appointment

No one understands the fear of committing to these appointments better than our sales team.  However, this isn’t a hard and fast guarantee that you are buying a car from us.  This is a no pressure situation.  Victorville Hyundai uses test drive appointments as a way to ensure you get the best experience possible.  We want to have a member of our sales team prepped and ready to answer your questions and have keys in hand for the cars you would like to test drive.  This can help shorten the amount of time you spend at the dealership and should you choose to buy, help us to make sure everything moves smoothly and efficiently for you.  What we're saying is...IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU!

Before hitting the road…

There are a few things we want you to do before you even hit the road.

  • Child seats and storage: If you regularly have a car seat or booster seat in your vehicle, you are going to want to see how it will fit in a new car.  That goes for any large items that you might carry regularly as well- tools, camera equipment, farmer’s market gear, etc.  Have a good idea of how much space you will need for these items.  This is NOT an area you will want to overlook.

  • Paint Colors: If you are dead set on a paint color for your car, be sure to view it during daylight hours and nighttime hours.  A car's paint color can look completely different depending on the time you drive it.

Now that you're ready to hit the road for your test drive, here is a list of questions you should be thinking about while driving.

Test Drive Questions

  • Is it easy and comfortable to get in and out of the vehicle?

  • Is there enough headroom and legroom in both the front and backseat?

  • Are you sitting too low or too high in the vehicle?

  • Is the seat position comfortable while driving?

  • Are the gauges easy to read?

  • Does the steering wheel feel natural and comfortable in your hands?

  • Can you see clearly out of the car?  Be sure to check for your potential blind spots as well.

Pro Tip: Turn the radio off while test driving.  You want to be able to focus on how the engine sounds, the feel of the car, and the overall experience in this vehicle.

Get Techy With It

Let’s face it, part of the perk of owning a new vehicle is the upgraded technology and safety features.  Don’t be blinded by the 8 inch infotainment screen and sultry voice that pours from the speakers.  Also, just to clear things up, our sales team will not slap your hands for touching all the tech.  This is something that is encouraged so you get a good feel for your potential car.

  • Pair your phone, test the calling features and audio.

  • Test how easy it is to switch radio stations and use the navigation.

  • Does this vehicle have a back-up camera?  Do you like the picture and how it operates?

You finished your test drive, now what?

If you like the vehicle, your salesperson will invite you into the dealership to begin negotiations.  You are in control of this process.  You get to decide if it happens immediately after the test drive or you can ask your salesperson to follow-up with you in a day or two so you don’t feel pressured to make a decision.  We want you to be ecstatic when you do purchase your new vehicle from Victorville Hyundai.
